1. Who we are
Adventure Trader is the responsible party for personal information processed through this platform, in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
2. What we collect
- Account information: name, email address, SA mobile number, province, city and suburb.
- Verification information: identity documents, selfies, proof of address, CIPC and bank confirmation documents, and ownership documents.
- Technical information: IP address, device and log data used for security and fraud prevention.
3. Why we process it
- To create and manage your account and provide the marketplace.
- To verify identities, prevent fraud and keep users safe (legitimate interest and legal obligation).
- To send service messages, and marketing only where you have opted in.
4. How we protect verification documents
Sensitive documents are stored in a private, access-controlled vault. Only you and authorised Adventure Trader reviewers can access them. They are never shown to other users.
5. Sharing
We share information only with service providers who help us run the platform (hosting, SMS, email), under contractual confidentiality obligations, or where required by law — for example, to assist SAPS with a fraud investigation.
6. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. Verification documents are retained for up to five years after account closure for fraud-prevention purposes.
7. Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, object to processing, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforeg.org.za.
